Kollafjordur and Torshavn
The Faroe Islands are a self ruling constituent country of Denmark, consisting of 18 islands situated in the middle of the North Atlantic midway between Iceland and Norway.
Kollafjørður is a small village (population about 700) with an old church and a fish factory. The nearest town is Torshavn, the capital of the Faroes, it is a 25 minute bus ride away.
Tórshavn (Thorshavn) is the capital and largest city in the Faroe Islands. The town has a population of about 13,000. The oldest part of town is the Tinganes Peninsula, where the Vikings established their parliament in 850. The peninsula, divides the harbour and contains the oldest houses in town – small wooden houses with turf roofs, some are 500 years old, including the prime ministers office and parliament.
Notable places in Torshavn are the harbour, cathedral and municipal park.
